Dear John,
America’s facing a crisis, and we need your help.
In 2020, we lost over 43,000 Americans to gun violence. This year, things are only getting worse: in just the first six months of 2021, there have already been 301 mass shootings (1). We’re looking at a summer colored by blood if we don’t take action now.
That’s why we have to pass the Break the Cycle of Violence Act. The legislation, sponsored by Senator Cory Booker and Representative Steven Horsford, will create a National Community Violence Response Center and a federal Office of Community Violence Intervention to curb gun violence across the U.S. The bill will also invest a total of $6.5 billion in America’s most vulnerable communities and fund programs proven to reduce violence while creating new opportunities for underserved youth.
