John,
The special election to elect Ohio's next representative in Congress for the state's 11th District is heating up — and establishment Democrats are scrambling:
Our movement knows that Nina Turner is the best choice to represent Ohio's 11th District, which includes cities like Cleveland and Akron. Nina's ready to get to Washington to fight for progressive policies like Medicare for All, a $15 minimum wage, and racial and economic justice for all.
Nina's not only endorsed by Jamaal, but also by AOC, Bernie Sanders, and Ed Markey. She's also received local Ohio- and Cleveland-based support from politicians, leadership, and media alike. So naturally, all of the forces of the Democratic establishment are coming out to try and stop her from winning a seat in Congress.
What's more — they're deploying the same, tired strategy on Nina's campaign like they did for Jamaal's back in 2020:
Jamaal's campaign (2020) | Nina's campaign (2021) |
Have establishment Democrats like Hilary Clinton endorse against the progressive in the race ❌ Spend $1.4 million in ad buys from dark money groups ❌ Do everything possible to protect and maintain the status quo in Washington ❌ |
Have establishment Democrats like Hilary Clinton endorse against the progressive in the race ❌ Execute six-figure ad buy to unleash attack ads from dark money groups ❌ Do everything possible to protect and maintain the status quo in Washington ❌ |
It's disappointing to see that even a year later, establishment Democrats will do everything it can to stop our growing movement in its tracks. But we've seen and defeated this playbook before.
Our progressive movement prevailed last year to send Jamaal to Congress to fight for our values. We banded together to organize and mobilize voters in New York's 16th District to vote Jamaal into Congress. Our movement can send Nina to Congress, too, but we need to work together to make it happen.
Thanks,
Team Bowman
