This veteran, non-profit coordinator, and former legislative aid is ready to bring REAL systemic change to her district and the country, and we are thrilled to stand with Jessica’s bold, progressive campaign. Born and raised in South Dallas, Jessica knew a college education was her way out of poverty, but higher education seemed unattainable. Undaunted, her mother enrolled her in a college preparatory program for underserved youth, and Jessica was accepted to seven colleges. Jessica began college, but costs forced her to drop out. Determined to complete her education, she enlisted in the Navy as a medic while pursuing her degree, ultimately obtaining a Master's in Public Administration in Virginia while working for a state senator.
Back home in Dallas, Jessica noticed the neighborhood she grew up in looked no better than it did 28 years ago -- the same amount of time the incumbent has held the TX-30 seat.
Jessica joined a non-profit organization that assists low-income communities with rent, food, and healthcare. She also began organizing for Dallas Stops Evictions, helping tenants fight eviction, poor living conditions, and predatory landlords amidst the COVID pandemic.
Jessica started Black Votes Matter Dallas to increase voter registration, education, and turnout in marginalized, predominantly Black/Latino communities across Dallas.
Now Jessica is running for Congress to deliver a “New Deal” for Texas’ 30th Congressional district on a bold platform including Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, Reparations, abolishing ICE, and ending corruption in D.C.
In her own words:
"No matter the zip code, or the political party in power, there is a clear lack of investment in the most underserved communities -- I’m running because the people of Dallas deserve so much better than yesterday’s broken promises from politicians in Washington, D.C."
TX-30 has had the same representation for almost thirty years. Jessica offers a fresh perspective and solutions that will serve the people of her district. And once elected, Jessica will be the youngest Black woman to serve in Congress.
