"18 more months of chaos and the inability to get stuff done, that's what we want.”
— Texas GOP Congressman Chip Roy
That is how Republicans are talking about their “jobs” behind closed doors — these latest comments were captured on a hidden camera just a week ago.
It’s insidious. It’s wrong. And yet, it’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from today’s Republican Party.
Bipartisanship used to be lauded in Washington. Overcoming partisan differences and rising to the challenge of getting things done has been key to our nation’s success, and the success of our democracy.
But the GOP is working to tear that down. And what’s worse, they’re proud of it.
For over a decade, and I’d even argue back to the mid-’90s, Republicans have been the party of obstruction – blocking any progress for America.
They’ve prioritized culture wars, weaponized minority rule, and have sent our nation's capital into a constant tailspin. Causing gridlock that has decayed the American people's trust and belief in our ability to get even the most basic things done.
After decades of drift, an autocrat seized control of their party, made harsh examples of those who dared oppose him, and their entire conference capitulated to his every authoritarian whim. They still do.
For our political system to work and flourish, we need two functional political parties. Right now, it’s clear we only have one.
So how do we move forward?
First, we must abolish the filibuster. Republicans in the House won’t work with us, and Mitch McConnell can’t continue to rule from the minority.
Once we abolish the filibuster, we will have no time to lose. We must pass real policies that voters demanded in the November election — and beat the odds in the midterms. Voting rights, healthcare, climate change, student debt, and much more are on the line.
We need to do more than buck the trend of the president's party losing seats in the midterms. Even more difficult, we need to win a larger majority.
So that’s where you come in, John.
I’m asking you to pitch in to my campaign for the first time. Even if it’s just $1. Your contribution can make a real difference in pressuring Senate Democrats to abolish the filibuster and supporting Democrats around the country to defend and expand our majorities. Would you be willing to make a contribution?

If we lose in the midterms, we will only endure more gridlock and drift, while our challenges become greater. This next year is critical. We need to make a statement. And with your help, I know we can.
