As a longstanding Palestinian human rights advocate, I am dedicated to shifting the narrative on the plight of Palestine and working towards establishing the long-denied rights of the Palestinian people. I’m jumping into the work by asking you to take action today to #SaveJerusalem as Israel pushes the demolition of Palestinian homes for settlement expansion projects in Silwan. Palestinian residents living in Silwan, a neighborhood in Jerusalem near the Old City walls, are greatly suffering under the cruel Israeli practice of ethnic cleansing. Through its discriminatory legal system, Israel is actively expanding its settlement projects in Silwan. Palestinian residents were given a deadline of June 27 to demolish their own homes. Israel has already demolished a butcher shop after the deadline expired and nearly 100 Palestinian families are now facing forced displacement to make way for Israel's plans to build a biblical tourist park. Today, Thursday July 8th, we’re joining our friends at Stop the Wall in an international day of action to #SaveJerusalem. Here are some things you can do to participate TODAY: 1. Get your Representative to sponsor legislation ending US weapons for Israeli home demolitions. Earlier this year, Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) introduced HR2590, the Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act. This bill would prohibit US weapons from being used by Israel to forcibly expel Palestinians from their homes. |
