It is time to DRAW NEAR.
When the pandemic broke, we stayed home out of love for our neighbor. We gave up everything - movies, restaurants, shopping, gyms, corporate worship. It truly was an act of love. We deliberately stayed away from one another to keep from spreading the virus and harming others.
But now it’s time to love in the opposite direction. Love for our neighbor means coming back to church because when we are together, we share with one another Jesus’s words, Jesus’s presence, Jesus’s ministry and touch. The prescription for healing and wholeness after being separated and isolated for so long is to stay near to one another to spread the Gospel back and forth! That’s the message of the letter to the Hebrews - “...let us draw near, with hearts sprinkled clean... And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:22, 24, 25). Love for our neighbor means coming back to church because the reconciling embrace of Jesus reaches through the ministry of the church body!
