Federal, D.C. workers say they are more productive teleworking
Nearly 80% of federal and D.C. government employees say their productivity has increased while teleworking during the pandemic, according to a new survey from the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). "Our survey shows that the federal and D.C. government employees we represent were more productive during the pandemic, even though the majority were working from home for the first time," AFGE National President Everett Kelley said. ""The firsthand experiences of the employees we represent directly contradict the assumptions being made by certain lawmakers that efficiency or productivity suffers when employees are permitted to telework," Kelley said. Seventy-seven percent of respondents said they would like to continue teleworking at their current level, and nearly 19% said they would like to increase the number of days they work from home. JUFJ Union okays first contract
Members of the [link removed] JUFJ Union have ratified their first collective bargaining agreement. "We couldn't have gotten here without the commitment and persistence of our bargaining team, the determination of our entire unit, and the guidance we received from (NPEU)," the union - which represents workers at Jews United for Justice, and is part of IFPTE Local 70 -- tweeted. "We're also greatly appreciative of management's collaborative spirit throughout this process." Highlights of the deal include a higher wage floor, standardized raises, ratification bonuses, improved Paid & Family Medical Leave, a fairer comp time policy and more staff inclusion in decision-making.

Today's Labor Quote: Ella Reeve "Mother" Bloor

"The capitalist class shoots down mothers and children. It stops at nothing, no matter how monstrous, to prevent the organization of the workers."

Labor organizer Ella Reeve "Mother" Bloor was born on Staten Island, NY on this date in 1862. Among her activities: investigating child labor in glass factories and mines, and working undercover in meat packing plants to verify for federal investigators the nightmarish working conditions that author Upton Sinclair had revealed in "The Jungle."
