This is a side event related to Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and part of the European Vocational Skills Week 2019. European Council 17-18 October European Council The European Council will meet on 17 and 18 October 2019 to discuss a number of important issues, including EU long-term budget, priorities for the next 5 years, climate change, and Brexit. Council of Ministers Monday 14 October Agriculture and Fisheries Council The Council will discuss fishing opportunities for 2020, forestry and the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy. Foreign Affairs Council Ministers are expected to follow-up on discussions held during the 74th UN General Assembly. They are expected to touch upon the situation in Iran, the Gulf, Libya and Venezuela. Tuesday 15 October Agriculture and Fisheries Council The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and other fisheries-related matter are on the agenda. General Affairs Council & Article 50 The Council will focus on enlargement and on the stabilisation and association process as regards Albania and the Republic of North Macedonia. The discussion follows on from the conclusions adopted at the June General Affairs Council. Additionally, the Council in EU27 format, will discuss the state of play of Brexit. Ministers will be updated by the Commission’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier. On that basis, the Council will prepare the October European Council (Article 50) meeting. Wednesday 16 October COREPER I Tripartite Social Summit The main theme of the autumn social summit is "Progressing on the social and economic dimensions for a competitive, fair and sustainable Europe: The role of social partners and social dialogue". European Commission and High Representative October 14-18 European Vocational Skills Week The theme of this 4th edition of the European vocational skills week will be ‘Vocational education and training (VET) for all – Skills for life’. The European Vocational Skills Week exists to highlight excellence in VET, showing that VET can be as good a route to a quality career and life as any other learning pathway. Monday 14 October Thyssen attends European Vocational Skills Week Commissioner Marianne Thyssen will be in Oostende and Brussels in order to attend the events surrounding the launch of the European Vocational Skills Week.  Tuesday 15 October Timmermans receives Rhuggenaath Commissioner Frans Timmermans receives Eugene Rhuggenaath, Prime Minister of Curaçao, and receives representatives of the ‘Groene 10'. Wednesday 16 October College Meeting Juncker attends Tripartite Social Summit President Jean-Claude Juncker delivers an opening speech at the Tripartite Social Summit, hosts the inaugural ceremony of the European Labour Authority, and delivers a speech together with Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister of Slovakia. Thursday 17 October Juncker attends European Council President Jean-Claude Juncker receives Brigitte Bierlein, Chancellor of Austria, and António Costa, Prime Minister of Portugal. Juncker will also participate in the EPP Summit ahead of the European Council and attend the European Council. Friday 18 October Stylianides in Kavala, Greece Commissioner Christos Stylianides will be in Kavala, Greece to launch the Virtual School Initiative by the Advanced Educational Technologies and Mobile Applications Lab. European Economic and Social Committee Monday 14 October Hearing on the Housing Situation of the Roma At its hearing of 14 October, the Study Group on the Inclusion of the Roma will be discussing the housing situation of the Roma and how to better tackle the ongoing segregation they are still facing today. Tuesday 15 October SOC Meeting Meeting of the Section for Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship New EU goals and policies for sustainable development The Consumers and Environment Category is going to discuss how the political concept of sustainable development is evolving at EU level and the EU's priorities and policies for the implementation of the Sustainable Goals. Wednesday 16 October TEN Meeting Meeting of the Section for Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and the Information Society European Bioeconomy: Regions, Cities and Civil Society Guest speakers from governments, businesses, workers, academia and NGOs will be invited to discuss bioeconomy strategies, the importance of education and training, Europe's blue bioeconomy, and the link between our bioeconomy and food. European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights  October 14-15  FRA’s National Liaison Officers come together The agency’s National Liaison Officers (NLOs) will meet in Vienna from 14 to 15 October to discuss FRA’s cooperation with EU Member States. October 17-18 Seminar on policing and relations with the public The FRA and the French ‘Defender of Rights’ are jointly organising an international seminar on the challenges of relations between the police and the public, as well as current practices.   The agenda of FRA can be found here. European Investment Bank Wednesday 16 October Racing for Economic Leadership: EU and US Perspectives In this fourth edition of the EU and US Perspectives conference series, there will be a debate on whether policy choices being put in place in the US and the EU will ultimately deliver sustainable outcomes. October 17-18 October days for sustainable development The conference will explore pilot and creative best practices emerging in the food, fashion and tourism sectors as specific areas of implementation, from a supply and demand perspective, with panellists from the private and public sectors, academia, the impact investment community, international organisations, the EIB and NGOs, as well as other experts and key actors.
