Digitalisation, SDGs & Future of Work: Addressing Tomorrow’s Skills and Jobs Challenges
EMI, ACCA, PwC, and BSA will be holding a panel discussion entitled ‘Digitalisation, SDGs & Future of work: addressing tomorrow’s skills and jobs challenges’ on 15 October 2019 (11:30-14:30) at the Hotel Renaissance, Brussels (Rue du Parnasse 19). This is a side event related to Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and part of the European Vocational Skills Week 2019.

The European Council will meet on 17 and 18 October 2019 to discuss a number of important issues, including EU long-term budget, priorities for the next 5 years, climate change, and Brexit.

Monday 14 October
Agriculture and Fisheries Council
The Council will discuss fishing opportunities for 2020, forestry and the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
Foreign Affairs Council
Ministers are expected to follow-up on discussions held during the 74th UN General Assembly. They are expected to touch upon the situation in Iran, the Gulf, Libya and Venezuela.
Tuesday 15 October
Agriculture and Fisheries Council
The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and other fisheries-related matter are on the agenda.
General Affairs Council & Article 50
The Council will focus on enlargement and on the stabilisation and association process as regards Albania and the Republic of North Macedonia. The discussion follows on from the conclusions adopted at the June General Affairs Council. Additionally, the Council in EU27 format, will discuss the state of play of Brexit. Ministers will be updated by the Commission’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier. On that basis, the Council will prepare the October European Council (Article 50) meeting.

The main theme of the autumn social summit is "Progressing on the social and economic dimensions for a competitive, fair and sustainable Europe: The role of social partners and social dialogue".

The theme of this 4th edition of the European vocational skills week will be ‘Vocational education and training (VET) for all – Skills for life’. The European Vocational Skills Week exists to highlight excellence in VET, showing that VET can be as good a route to a quality career and life as any other learning pathway.

Juncker attends Tripartite Social Summit
President Jean-Claude Juncker delivers an opening speech at the Tripartite Social Summit, hosts the inaugural ceremony of the European Labour Authority, and delivers a speech together with Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister of Slovakia.

Juncker attends European Council
President Jean-Claude Juncker receives Brigitte Bierlein, Chancellor of Austria, and António Costa, Prime Minister of Portugal. Juncker will also participate in the EPP Summit ahead of the European Council and attend the European Council.
Friday 18 October
Stylianides in Kavala, Greece
Commissioner Christos Stylianides will be in Kavala, Greece to launch the Virtual School Initiative by the Advanced Educational Technologies and Mobile Applications Lab.
