John,
We’re sharing an update on our work to advance environmental priorities in the budget: The House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior has just passed its Fiscal Year 2022 bill — and our priorities are at the forefront.
Working closely with the Biden administration, SEEC members in Congress are repairing the environmental havoc of the previous administration, making long-overdue investments to combat climate change, and returning to science as the foundation for decision-making.
SEEC members of Congress are working long hours to ensure these environmental priorities receive the funding and the attention they deserve.
Here’s a summary of some of the biggest wins in the House Interior Bill:
$11.34 billion for the EPA, an increase of $2.11 billion over FY 2021 and $110.8 million above President Biden’s budget request;
$1.54 billion for the Superfund program to clean up environmental hazards, an increase of $331 million over FY 2021;
$5.32 for State and Tribal Assistance Grants, an increase of $1.01 billion over FY 2021 and $194 million above President Biden’s budget request;
$3.23 billion for Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds, an increase of $464 million. This funding includes $428.6 million for over 280 drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater management projects across the country;
$131 million for Brownfields cleanups, a $49 million increase;
$326.6 million in targeted grants for drinking water contaminants and wastewater treatment for lead, nitrates, and other health hazards;
$150 million for Diesel Emissions Reduction grants, an increase of $60 million.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
