Fulfillment Fund

July 2021 Newsletter

Despite the school year coming to a close, summer is still a busy time at Fulfillment Fund. While many of our students are enjoying some downtime as they prepare for the next step in their educational careers, our programs team is hard at work putting together meaningful programming for the students we serve.

Our College Access team will be taking high school students on four virtual college tours to “see” colleges and universities they may be interested in applying to. Fulfillment Fund will host two webinars designed to help incoming seniors prepare for the college admissions application process in July and a three-day Writing Workshop to help our seniors with their college application essays in August.

Our College Success team has created a series of workshops designed to combat ‘summer melt,’ a phenomenon affecting 10-15% of incoming freshmen each year, wherein those that have gained admission never make it to the first day of college classes. Fulfillment Fund University is a series of workshops that will support our incoming freshmen with their transition to college. For our returning college students, we have several webinars on topics to support them as they continue their future career exploration from experts in the field.

In addition to our summer programming, Fulfillment Fund is growing! Our College Access team has just welcomed two new members; Program Director John Kuhlmann and College Counselor Evelyn Menjivar. Our Board of Directors has also been welcoming new members that bring with them diverse perspectives and networks. We’re so thrilled to have them join us on our mission of making college a reality for all of our students.

Summer Programming

Summer is an important time for students to relax, recharge, and get ready for the upcoming fall. Fulfillment Fund University

Summer melt is a phenomenon that occurs when recent high school grads accepted into a college or university do not matriculate or enroll in that school. The reasons for this can range from missing deadlines, financial aid documents, or even feeling overwhelmed by the entire process. To combat this, we have a three-day Summer Bridge program for our students called Fulfillment Fund University. Read more.

Welcome our new Board Members

Welcoming New Board Members

Over the last two years, our Board of Directors has been growing and changing. Our incoming members bring with them new perspectives from their diverse backgrounds, experiences, and professions. During this period, we welcomed Marco Mendoza, Daniel Forkkio, Jim and Carmen Ward, and most recently, Henry Brandon, and Bart Pachino. Please join us in giving them a warm welcome to the Fulfillment Fund family.
