John,
It’s no secret that Maine is home to some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world. From Acadia National Park to state parks such as Baxter, the Second District exemplifies the beautiful scenery our state is famous for.
July is commemorated nationally as Park and Recreation Month, prompting us all to reflect on our state’s natural beauty.
These parks are so much more than just a beautiful backdrop. They’re also a vital part of Maine’s economy, supplying the jobs and tourism revenue that keep our state running smoothly -- not to mention their contribution to building a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.
Jared knows that Maine’s natural resources are essential to our state’s economy and way of life, which is why he championed legislation to address the maintenance backlog at our national parks. He also helped introduce the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) and worked to pass it into law. Now, $16 million is coming to Maine to improve and maintain working forests and public lands near Perham Stream, around Bethel, and in Acadia National Park.
Last month, Jared joined Secretary Deb Haaland on her trip to Acadia National Park -- her first visit to Maine and first visit to a national park as Secretary of the Interior -- to discuss the planned park investments stemming from the passage of the GAOA.
Jared has also proudly worked to expand access to our public lands for military families across the country. His legislation, the Gold Star Family Park Pass Act, honors the sacrifices of military families who have lost a loved one in service. Jared's bill was successfully signed into law last December, and it now provides America's Gold Star families with free admission to all National Parks and federal recreation sites.
If you’re able, we hope you’ll consider chipping in a few dollars during this Park and Recreation Month as we gear up for a tough campaign. Thank you for your continued support. Let’s get to work!
