Friends,
I was born a seventh-generation South Carolinian in Bennettsville — a place so neglected by politics as usual that some call it the “corridor of shame.” Sadly, forgotten communities like where I am from are not rare in South Carolina.
Wanting to change that culture of systemic inequality inspired me to fight for my own education, and propelled me into a life of public service. In the legislature I’ve been fighting for high quality education for all students, healthcare that is accessible throughout our state, pay equity and good paying jobs for all South Carolinians.
As a mother of two Black young men, this advocacy has always been personal for me. Too many of our best and brightest have to move to neighboring states to find opportunity. I’m fighting to make sure they can stay here in South Carolina and thrive.
Now more than ever, we need bold, new leadership. The past few years have illustrated the failures of Governor Henry McMaster and revealed that our broken government only works for a select few.
That’s why I’m running to become the next Governor of South Carolina.
It’s time for us to build a South Carolina together that is as strong as we are. Will you join me and add your name as a grassroots supporter of my campaign?
Taking on the political establishment is nothing new to me. For ten years I have been standing up to the old guard and protecting a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions. I’m taking on corporate monopolies with landmark legislation to benefit ratepayers who are being fleeced by public utilities.
I’m fighting for parents who, like me, dream of a better future for our children;
For students and young people seeking education and opportunity;
For families working hard to make ends meet.
I’ll never shy away from fighting for what is right — whether it means standing up to the McMaster administration, or even taking on my own party to ensure that the people of South Carolina come first.
Rejecting the status quo politics of the past is how we’ll create a path for a better future. A South Carolina where access to quality education, jobs, and healthcare don’t depend on your zip code.
Now, I’m running for Governor to say no to politics as usual and the same old tired leadership of yesterday.
It will take all of us to build a transformative movement for change, which is why I need you in this fight. I hope you’ll join me by adding your name as a grassroots supporter.
Thank you, friend. I’m honored to have you alongside me in this fight to build a better, stronger South Carolina.
