Fight back against Radical Voting Restrictions

While our senators deliberate on how to reform the filibuster, Republican state legislatures are racing to enact voting restrictions based on the Big Lie denying Trump’s defeat in 2020. We’ve all heard about the new Georgia law making it illegal to give food and water to voters waiting in line, but many of the laws are far more extreme than that.
Republicans have been playing hardball with our voting rights for decades, including passing a new raft of voter suppression laws after the Supreme Court’s Shelby v. Holder decision in 2013 gutted Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, weaponizing partisan redistricting after the 2010 Census, and, in 2021, using the Big Deadly Lie to enact even more draconian voting restrictions.
Tell Your Senators ([link removed]) it’s time to fight back and restore voting rights for all Americans. Pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Act Today to End the Filibuster and Protect Voting Rights
Join ISF, IEB, and many other grassroots organizations at Oscar Grant Plaza in Oakland today at 6 PM for a rally ([link removed]) to defend democracy by raising awareness of the urgent need to end the filibuster to protect voting rights for all Americans.
We are facing a make-or-break moment for S.1, the For The People Act. This summer marks a real Deadline for Democracy. We need to mobilize like never before to show our senators that there is overwhelming grassroots support for democracy reform, and we need to demand that they get it done now without letting the filibuster get in the way. If we want to protect voting rights, we must reform or kill the filibuster, or Republicans will keep using it to block legislation that Democrats would otherwise be able to pass with a simple majority vote. Win: UC Regents Vote to Require Nondiscriminatory Healthcare
ISF has been supporting NARAL Pro-Choice California, Equality California, and the ACLU in advocating for a state bill (SB 379 ([link removed]) ) that requires all UC health providers to provide comprehensive LGBTQ+ and reproductive healthcare, regardless of where they practice. Our pressure is paying off: on June 23 the UC Board of Regents took a significant vote to protect comprehensive UC healthcare and stand firm on nondiscrimination. Under the new policy, partner hospitals must provide procedures to all people on a non-discriminatory basis and inform patients of all their healthcare options.
