In case you missed Ayanna’s email about a key victory in the fight to end
the death penalty once and for all — late last week the Department of
Justice announced they are suspending all federal executions until further
notice.

This is a huge win for our movement, which has been calling for President
Biden to honor his campaign promise to end the federal death penalty since
his inaugration.

State-sanctioned murder is not justice, and it never will be. This action
is a critical step towards ending this cruel and unjust punishment.

keep up the pressure on Joe Biden and the Department of Justice to end the
practice of state-sanctioned murder once and for all?

It is because of your activism, community building, and grassroots support
that we’re able to achieve victories like this one.

Thank you for stepping up today,

Subject: BREAKING: Important action on the federal death penalty

For months, I — along with my colleagues and our movement — have been
calling on President Biden to honor his campaign promise to end the
federal death penalty — and late last night, the Department of Justice
announced that it will suspend all federal executions.

The death penalty — which disproportionately kills Black, Latinx, and poor
people — does absolutely nothing to make our communities safer. It is a
cruel and devastating tool of oppression, and it has no place in our
society.

State-sanctioned murder is not justice, and it never will be. The
abolition of the federal death penalty has been a longstanding priority
for me, and this work remains urgent.

We must keep up the pressure on President Biden to commute all death
sentences, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress,
organizers, and advocates to ensure that no one else is condemned to die
at the hands of our criminal injustice system.

[ [link removed] ]I need you with me in this fight for justice. Will you support our
work to end the practice of state-sanctioned murder once and for all by
making a $3 contribution to our movement right now?

Thank you for being part of this movement. It is because of your activism,
community building, and support that we’re able to achieve victories like
this one.

In solidarity,

Ayanna
