For Charles Booker, the struggle that so many Kentuckians face is personal.
He grew up in one of the poorest ZIP codes in Kentucky, and lived the struggle other politicians only ever talk about. Both his parents dropped out of high school to help take care of their family. As a diabetic, he’s had to ration his insulin, and growing up, Charles’ mom often went without eating so that he could.
Charles knows that his family wasn’t alone in their struggles. He knows that the challenges Kentuckians face are relentless. But he knows that together, we can and will build a better, brighter future for everyone in Kentucky: one where people have the same quality health care as our politicians, where people can breathe clean air, drink clean water, and be safe in their homes without worrying about their doors being kicked in.
