John, we need to update you on this:
The Hill: “Florida Gov signs law requiring students, faculty be asked their political beliefs.”
That's right, Trump puppet Ron DeSantis has officially brought fascism to Florida. This law recently went into effect and requires public university students and faculty to declare their political beliefs in an annual state-mandated survey.
And if these survey results don't meet the GOP's standards? Well, according to DeSantis, “That's not worth tax dollars.” DeSantis is planning on defunding public universities that teach “stale ideology,” which, knowing his track record, is anything that addresses racism, systemic inequality, or any of the challenges our country is facing.
This is how it starts, John. Restricting the voting rights of people who disagree with you, limiting academic freedom and expression, banning the right to protest -- all things DeSantis has done. We know it's easy to look the other way, but millions of Americans aren't.
In fact, Ron DeSantis is now a GOP favorite, even more so than Donald Trump according to 2024 polling.
We're working around the clock to end DeSantis' career this cycle -- because the fascist wave needs to end in Florida. But Democrat Nikki Fried needs support from people like you nationwide.
Fried knows that this new law is just the latest example of “what authoritarian regimes do” when they feel threatened. She knows how to win tough races because she's done it before, but her “greatest weakness is the fact that right now Ron is on a platform on the national stage.”
