GOP Rep. Ronny Jackson -- from highly-gerrymandered Texas -- is openly admitting that Republicans plan to use this year’s redistricting process to cheat their way to a House majority. And he’s confident they’re going to get away with it, too! (Help us prove him wrong!)

The Guardian : “'We have redistricting coming up and the Republicans control most of that process...' Representative Ronny Jackson told a conference of religious conservatives. 'That alone should get us the majority back.'”

The disturbing truth is that if we don’t fight with everything we’ve got to make sure fair maps are passed this year, Jackson could be right. According to The Guardian, “The Republican party only needs to win five seats to wrench the speaker’s gavel from Nancy Pelosi. They could draw themselves a dozen – or more – through gerrymandering alone.”

States like Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida could provide Republicans the seats they need to win a House majority even if everyone votes exactly the same way they did in 2020.

We don’t have to tell you that that’s not how democracy is supposed to function. The good news is that we can still stop it from happening -- the NDRC is working hard this year to push officials to implement fair maps, and we’ll be ready to support plaintiffs in lawsuits to protect the redistricting process. But we need your help to keep our work going!
