Supreme Court Ruling on Arizona Restrictions Could Have Devastating Consequences for AAPI Voters

The Supreme Court dealt another blow to the Voting Rights Act last week, ruling in favor of the state of Arizona in a 6-3 decision that could pave the way for the enactment of rules that disproportionately burden voters of color.

What's next: Congress must swiftly pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the For The People Act to restore critical protections that have been gutted in the last decade. Read OCA's full statement here.

Last month's Tech Table briefing featured Aerica Shimuzu Banks and Eric Toda, who discussed diversity and inclusion within the tech industry. The conversation centered on how they got started in AAPI activism work, and how we can advocate for meaningful, sustainable equity within tech companies and other corporate partners.

Preparation is underway for our annual Intern Advocacy Day on July 23! During the next few weeks, our intern cohort will learn about public policy advocacy, conduct research and develop expertise on various policy issues, and practice skills necessary to conduct legislative visits. July 10: "Writing on the Wall" Film Premiere

Join OCA-Greater Seattle for the "Writing on the Wall," an event that examines anti-Asian hate, Black Lives Matter, and the creation of Chinatown International District (CID) murals from the perspective of Doan Diane Dy Hoang nee Nguyen. This free screening will include a 7-minute documentary about the CID murals, a panel discussion, and a free lunch. 🎥 Register to attend in-person or virtually here.

Join OCA Sacramento and the National Teen Leadership Program for a virtual workshop on advocacy, activism, allyshop, and leadership—designed specifically for teens. You'll learn about communication skills, bias awareness, and group dynamics. Register for free here.
July 10: You'll Never Walk Alone
OCA Las Vegas is sponsoring a special community outreach event at Milk+T for those who love boba and BTS! Come bake and learn with OCA National on Instagram Live at 12PM ET! Our senior programs associate JaeHwi Shim and our intern Rukmini Kalamangalam will be making matcha mochi balls and talking about AAPI female representation in films. Learn more.
July 25: "In a Yellow Tone" Reception
Attend OCA-Greater Seattle’s screening of “In a Yellow Tone,” a comic novella honoring Asian congressional medal winners that was produced by OCA interns with funding from the City of Seattle. 🏃 July 31: Wellness Warrior Walk
Join OCA-Greater Seattle in supporting Kin On Nursing Home by participating in the "Walk for Wellness" at Seward Park There will be a small BBQ picnic after the walk is finished.
