Environment Colorado Banner

Friend,

We just won a big victory here in Colorado: The Centennial State just banned plastic foam cups and containers and single-use plastic bags.

That's great news for all of us who care about the plastic pollution that can be found everywhere these days.

The Plastic Pollution Reduction Act, backed by Environment Colorado and signed into law by Gov. Jared Polis today, is one of the most ambitious in the nation.

It phases out two of the most common and dangerous forms of plastic pollution for wildlife -- and also reverses a law that prohibits communities from going even further on reducing plastic trash.

Victory

Environmental supporters like you made this happen -- through hundreds of messages to elected officials, as well as a virtual Plastic Pollution Youth Lobby Day attended by 400 students from across the state.

The bill means less single-use plastic in Colorado, which means less waste polluting waterways and parks and harming wildlife.

It's a major step forward for the state, for the country, and for the planet's wildlife.

Our national network has been backing bills like these in states across the country. Today, it's clear that our momentum is growing: Ten states have passed plastic bag bans, and eight have done the same for polystyrene foam. We're excited to persuade more states to take aim at plastic pollution. We're also backing the federal Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act.

Meanwhile, Environment Colorado is also pushing grocer Whole Foods to phase out single-use plastic packaging in its stores, and advocating for federal legislation holding plastic producers responsible for their waste.

And it's all possible because of the support of people like you.

Thank you,

Hannah Collazo
State Director
