friend, School board elections are just around the corner in Falls Church, VA, and with eight candidates running for only four spots, a Koch network operative has entered the race! Ilya Shapiro, recently wrote an Op/Ed for the Wall Street Journal noting that he is running his campaign on ”accountability, responsiveness, transparency and independent thinking.” When it comes to accountability and transparency, we couldn’t agree more! Which is why we wanted to ensure full transparency: Ilya Shapiro is a Vice President at the Cato Institute, a Koch-funded think tank. At the moment, Koch-funded organizations are making it their mission to influence public education by instituting Critical Race Theory bans in schools around the country. These same think tanks, including the Cato Institute, have played a role in the defunding and destabilization of public schools in favor of privatizing education. Koch-backed organizations funded the January 6th Insurrection. Koch-funded organizations have sidelined meaningful climate disaster intervention through disinformation and pay to play politicians. We’ve seen what takes place when Koch-funded operatives are in places of power. The last thing Falls Church Virginia needs is a Koch-funded school board.
