We have more exciting news!
Dear Friends,
Results took a little longer than usual but they were worth the wait – Shahana Hanif and Rita Joseph won their New York City Council races! Congratulations!
Rita is a public school teacher, activist, immigrant, and mother; Shahana is a Lupus survivor and fierce advocate for language justice and adult literacy. We championed their campaigns because their backgrounds and experiences showed them the struggle and importance of having an ID. We’re so excited to watch them continue to work tirelessly to expand ID access across the city.
Unfortunately, we also have some disappointing news. Marti Allen-Cummings did not win their City Council race. Though we were hoping for a different outcome, we’re proud to have endorsed and supported a groundbreaking candidate who gives so much to their community.
Shahana, Rita, and Marti ran positive, inspiring campaigns and we’re immensely thankful to all of you who contributed.
We’ll be in touch with volunteer opportunities as the election draws closer. In the meantime, can you help us prepare for the general election this fall?
With gratitude,
Project ID HQ
