The fundamental right to make decisions about our bodies, lives, and futures is essential to the pursuit of racial, reproductive, and economic justice. Abortion restrictions are part of the intertwined systems of oppression that deny the constitutional rights of communities of color, those working to make ends meet, members of the LGBTQ community, immigrants, young people, those living in rural communities, and people with disabilities.
That is why, as we fight to ensure Roe does not fall AND we must also pursue a proactive abortion agenda that makes access to abortion a reality for all. Roe is the floor for access to reproductive rights. We have to transform how abortion is treated in this country, especially for young people and those whose abortion rights have been most obstructed. And, as always, any kind of abortion ban wouldn’t really ban abortion. Abortion bans would just make access to abortion more dependant on your zipcode and your income which means no worry for you if you are rich.
We need your help to ensure meaningful access to abortion for all. Policymakers must go beyond baseline legal protections to ensure meaningful access to abortion for all. This means building a cultural and systemic framework that values abortion as essential health care.
Let’s make sure they know that,
