Greetings from Washington, D.C.! We hope everyone had a joyous time celebrating our nation’s 245th birthday! In this week’s Agenda, we highlight our groundbreaking China Transparency Report, which looks at how (un)trustworthy China is on a wide range of issues. We also showcase Heritage senior fellow Mike Gonzalez’s effort to spread the word about the dangers of the rapidly metastasizing “critical race theory.” And we feature four new Heritage visiting fellows who are all alumni of President Trump’s Cabinet. There are also podcasts, webinars, and more to check out.

One of the welcome side effects of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic has been increased demands for greater
accountability and transparency from communist China, not just about public health issues, but its economy, human rights, military, influence operations, and more. That’s why Heritage launched its ambitious China Transparency Project last year and just released the 2021 China Transparency Report. Over its 140-plus pages, the report gathers private data and grades China’s openness on eight major issues. Read and download the entire report here. <[link removed]>

Heritage senior fellow Mike Gonzalez was one of the first in the country to raise the alarm
about the Marxist-based “critical race theory.” Now he’s crisscrossing the country to tell audiences why they should worry about this fast-spreading ideology, and he has a book coming out that focuses on the radical roots of the Black Lives Matter organization. Read more about Gonzalez and the impact he’s having in the fight against CRT. <[link removed]> Also check out Heritage’s critical race theory hub <[link removed]>, where you can find links to explainers, commentary, reports, and more.

HAPPENING AT HERITAGE
Mourning the loss of Helen Krieble. She was a selfless woman and an imaginative policy innovator, businesswoman, mentor, and leader. She co-founded and ran the Vernon K. Krieble Foundation in honor of her grandfather, which funded many public policy programs, including those at Heritage. She has left a tremendous legacy to America and to the conservative movement and will be greatly missed. <[link removed]>
Honoring the late Donald Rumsfeld. He led the Pentagon with strength, creativity, and resolve during two tenures as defense secretary. Heritage has lost a great friend and ally in the cause of protecting America and our nation has lost one of her staunchest defenders. Our hearts and prayers are with his wife, Joyce, and their three children. <[link removed]>
Heritage President Kay C. James applauded the Supreme Court’s decision to protect election integrity and uphold the First Amendment. Last week, the court ruled that Arizona’s election security laws banning out-of-precinct voting and ballot harvesting represented an appropriate constitutional exercise of the state to secure its own elections. Read our statement on the ruling. <[link removed]> The court struck down California’s unconstitutional policy forcing nonprofits to reveal the names of their donors. Read our reaction to the decision. <[link removed]>

A group of Heritage Foundation experts recently submitted an official comment in the Federal Register warning that a new Department of Education announcement could lead to reimplementing dangerous school safety and student discipline guidelines.
