Plus: Join our annual Supreme Court review this week! This summer, we will keep you in the loop with timely educational content related to summer civic holidays, as well as updates on America's Town Hall programs, professional development opportunities, and more. Summer Teacher Programs Starting tomorrow, the Center will host four virtual summer programs for educators. Follow along by exploring resources covering the topics of each program. Constitutional Conversations and Civil Dialogue – Why is civil dialogue in the classroom so important? Justice Stephen Breyer shared his insight during our last Scholar Exchange of the 2020-2021 season. Watch the video of the class with Justice Breyer here. Building the U.S. Constitution – What does the structural Constitution tell us about the larger principles of American democracy? Listen to the We The People podcast episode on Madison vs. Mason, which details key arguments both men had regarding the power of the government, the importance of a bill of rights, and more. Battles for Freedom and Equality – How does the Constitution protect freedom and promote equality? Watch this Town Hall video–where scholars explore the question: "Do We Need A Third Reconstruction?" The Bill of Rights – What protections are included in the Bill of Rights and how have those changed over time? Listen to a We the People podcast on Federalists vs. Anti-Federalists that details the role of each group in the debates surrounding the eventual Bill of Rights. Join Our Teacher Advisory Council We are looking for members of the classroom education field to join our next cohort of Teacher Advisory Council members. The council is open to educators who teach fifth grade to college level students from all types of school environments around the country. Accepted members will support the Center by sharing best practices for teaching constitutional and civic topics—looking at the intersection of U.S. history and current events. Members advise the Center on programs and resources to best support classroom instruction on constitutional fundamentals. Applications for this cohort are due by Friday, July 16. Notifications will be sent in early August and accepted applicants will begin their term as members on September 1. Each month features beautifully designed informational graphics exploring topics like the role and responsibilities of each branch of government, how powers are separated among the branches, federalism, and more. In addition to historic birthdays, anniversaries, and constitutional trivia, the calendar also includes the latest information on the Center’s 2021-2022 programs to help you plan your full year of constitutional learning. Calendars will be mailed in August! SIGN UP Join us for one of our upcoming America's Town Hall Programs The National Constitution Center and ADL present an America's Town Hall featuring Supreme Court reporter Dahlia Lithwick of Slate moderating a discussion among distinguished legal scholars Erwin Chemerinsky, Paul Clement, Frederick Lawrence, and Melissa Murray about the most important cases of the term, including voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, church-state separation, and immigration. They will also discuss the changing dynamics of the Court and what to expect at the Supreme Court next year. This program is presented in partnership with ADL. ADL is offering 1.5 CLE credits for this program at no cost. If you would like credit for this program, please sign up when registering below.
