I hope you are enjoying this very special day -- I know I am! The weather is great here in King George and I am enjoying some downtime with friends and family, but I wanted to quickly share what today means to me.
The 4th of July is our Independence Day and commemorates the birth of a nation -- one founded on the idea that all of us are created equally. I believe this is a day we can ALL celebrate by joining together as one nation to do all we can to create that more perfect union envisioned in 1776.
On this Independence Day, let’s rededicate ourselves to the ideals enshrined in a Constitution which laid the foundation for a democratic republic that has outlasted empires, authoritarians, and dictators.
America is an idea and an ideal, constantly changing and evolving as a result of the beliefs and actions of millions of individuals - continuing to attract people from around the globe who will bear ANY burden and pay ANY price to come...because they believe in America.
On this Independence Day, we accept that America is not perfect. Today we rededicate ourselves to the constant effort to be better, to be more just, to be more compassionate, and to be that America which has always been the hope of the world. What other nation will stand against the bullies of this world? Only America can.
