Every day we’re getting closer to a very real deadline to take action to pass the For the People Act (S.1): If the Senate does not overcome the filibuster and pass S.1 by August 2021, states will not have enough time to implement the legislation’s regulations before the 2022 midterm elections.
And with the current wave of voter suppression laws moving through state legislatures, the For the People Act will be critical to making sure that all voters are able to participate in those national and state elections.
Our coalition has grassroots events scheduled all around the country to build pressure on the Senate and next week’s July 4 congressional recess is an especially crucial time for these events and our movement.
The For the People Act is the most comprehensive legislation of our generation to strengthen our democracy by protecting and expanding voting rights, stopping partisan gerrymandering, and ending the dominance of Big Money in politics. It’s vital that every single one of our 100 senators sees the nationwide support for this bill because every single one of them has a responsibility to help build a stronger, more inclusive democracy.
We and our democracy coalition partners are hosting events all across the country, both in person and virtually, because we want to make sure that everyone can take action to support this critical piece of legislation. Your senators and representatives are likely to see local actions taking place while they’re at home on recess, so please pitch in to help make this democracy work better for us all!
