Hi John --

I just wanted to reach out quickly to wish you and your loved ones a safe and Happy Fourth of July!

Today, we celebrate our democracy, our troops, and America's promise of freedom and justice for all. When our forefathers declared independence from the British monarchy 245 years ago, they had a vision for a nation that was built by and for the people. Their idealism was revolutionary at the time, but their vision didn't include every American.

Black and brown Americans have been fighting for a more perfect union since before our nation was born. From the Underground Railroad and the Freedom Riders to the Dakota Access Pipeline protests and the Black Lives Matter movement today -- we are resisting and organizing until our nation fulfills its promise of liberty and justice for ALL Americans.

We aren't there yet, but today I am hopeful. We have already seen the proof of what we-the-people can accomplish when we work together. So I'll keep marching forward, and I'm thankful you're by my side.

I hope you and your loved ones have a safe and happy Fourth of July. I am proud to be serving you in Congress, and I know America's best days are still ahead of us.

Onward,

Dwight
