John, I hope that, like me, you’re spending this holiday weekend with your loved ones. I know I cherish this extra time with my wife and newborn daughter.

But as I enjoy this quality time, my mind shifts back onto the meaning of Independence Day.

Our Founding Fathers described the American experiment as a pursuit of freedom, justice, and representation for all -- and it’s clearer than ever that this pursuit isn’t over, John.

I hope that while celebrating today, you’ll join me in recommitting to fight for every person who is still lacking the freedom and justice our forefathers promised.
