On this day in 1776, delegates to the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence – establishing a free and independent nation. 

As families across the country celebrate today, I hope we all take some time to reflect on our freedoms that we are so blessed to enjoy as Americans. However, let us never forget that our Democracy is precious and fragile – and that freedom is not free. We are forever indebted to the brave men and women who have fought for this nation.
 
America is the last bastion of freedom in the world, and together we can continue our Founding Fathers' vision and preserve this land of freedom and opportunity for generations to come.
