John: Last month, we sent a petition to all of Team Swalwell urging supporters like you to demand a raise for federal firefighters.
On Wednesday it was announced that the Biden Administration will raise the minimum wage for federal firefighters to $15/hour. California is home to some of the most skilled firefighters in the country, but until today many of these brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us were being paid a mere $13.45/hour wage.
As this heat wave continues on and with wildfire season just around the corner — the need to take climate change seriously is more critical now than ever. John, will you sign our pledge and tell the Biden Administration that you’re with them in the fight against climate change?
Until now, the lack of pay for our firefighters has left firecrews understaffed and overworked during intense wildfire seasons. This is an extreme endangerment to firefighters on the job and it puts our communities and land at risk of devastation.
The Biden Administration has also voiced plans to hire more firefighters and transition existing firefighters from "as-needed" to permanent roles. They have also announced plans to improve early detection of wildfires via satellite imagery and provide advanced equipment for the brave men and women responding to these fires.
John, we are thrilled to see that the Biden Administration is taking wildfires and climate change seriously. It’s a much-needed change from the last Administration, wouldn’t you agree?
Sign our pledge and tell the Biden Administration that you stand with them in their fight against climate change today.
Thanks,
— Team Swalwell
