Tomorrow is July 4th, John: Have you already heard the fireworks in your neighborhood? Fireworks are a sure sign of summer. BBQs and late-night celebrations are sure to follow.

Tragically, there is a more insidious sign of July 4th: an increase in shootings. Research shows there is a strong correlation between heat and crime. As temperatures rise, gun violence spikes.
In fact, July 4th is one of the deadliest days of the year. And this year it could be much worse. Right now, much of the U.S. is experiencing a major heat wave. And with gun sales continuing to surge, we risk an increase in violence and bloodshed.

But, John, we are not defenseless. Solutions are sitting before Congress now, namely the Senate. They just need to bring them up for a vote. And we need to demand they do so. Will you sign our petition and urge the U.S. Senate to act NOW? We need to let our senators know that it’s time to claim our independence from gun violence. [[link removed]] [[link removed]]

TELL CONGRESS TO ACT! [[link removed]]No one should have to live with the fear of being shot and killed at a BBQ, pool party, or simply walking down their street this July 4th. [[link removed]] [[link removed]] As advocates, let’s ensure our friends, families, and communities have the tools and resources to support those impacted by gun violence this July 4th.

Brady Donors of the Week: Jim Cashel and Anne Ching

[link removed] [[link removed]]Jim Cashel and Anne Ching have made supporting [[link removed]] Brady a family affair. Jim was introduced to Brady through his work with a digital communications firm. He admired Brady’s clear goals, strategy, and tactics, and as a result, joined Brady’s Bay Area Regional Leadership Council [[link removed]] (RLC) as a founding member. Sharing Jim's commitment to gun violence prevention, Anne joined the RLC after Jim’s term, as she was drawn to Brady’s legacy, research, and strategies to prevent gun violence.

Now, as our nation emerges from a year of isolation, like many of us, Jim and Anne are concerned about how COVID-19 impacted mental health, especially children’s. It’s why Anne has plans to educate parents about safe firearm storage through Brady’s End Family Fire [[link removed]] program in her new role on the Board of the Sonoma (CA) Valley Unified School District. Thank you, Jim and Anne: Your support is what makes our work possible. We are proud to have you part of Team Brady in our fight to take action, not sides, to save lives and end gun violence!

[[link removed]]We at Brady know that untraceable “ghost guns” are by far one of the greatest threats to public safety — and so does President Biden. He proposed a rule to regulate ghost guns, and now, the Department of Justice is looking to Americans for public input. To little surprise, the NRA and its allies are flooding comments with misinformation and lies about ghost guns. That’s why we need your help right now to push back on the NRA and show strong support for President Biden’s rule to combat ghost guns: Please visit our webpage now to send a comment to the DOJ in support of President Biden’s rule to regulate ghost guns as the fully functioning firearms that they are!
