This is big, John: For months, the NDRC has been sounding the alarm that new, restrictive election laws passed in states like Georgia, Arizona, and Florida are designed to limit voting access and disenfranchise voters of color.
Now, President Biden’s Justice Department is responding to calls for action by suing Georgia for racially-motivated voter suppression.
We must be prepared to hold some of these same vote-suppressing legislators accountable for any map manipulation they attempt in the redistricting process. We know they won't stop at passing voter suppression legislation -- their next target is the redistricting process. We need to be prepared for this in states across the country.

If the DOJ’s lawsuit is successful, it could pave the way to overturn similar laws passed in other states.
But that’s a big if. Remember, the Supreme Court opted to gut key provisions of the Voting Rights Act only eight years ago -- and the judiciary has only gotten more conservative since then.
Simply put, it’s not time to relax. We need to be prepared for any outcome and continue our work to protect the integrity of our elections by fighting gerrymandering and voter suppression in every corner of the country.
