It’s been a huge week for small businesses and workers!

The Mayor’s sweeping small business relief package passed City Council last week, making it easier for local businesses as they emerge from the pandemic.

And it was a great week for our city’s workers! The City Council passed the Hotel Workers Right to Return ordinance, which the Mayor’s team helped craft along with labor movement and industry partners. That ordinance will ensure hotel workers laid off during the pandemic are given a fair chance to get back to work. 

Thanks to the Mayor’s leadership, the City Council passed several other crucial worker protections, including a new ordinance to stop wage theft, which you can read about here.

And Chicago is also taking another big step forward on the minimum wage. On July 1, the minimum wage increased to $15 per hour for 400,000 Chicagoans. That’s a campaign promise kept for Mayor Lightfoot, and we couldn’t be prouder.
