Hello, Friends —

This coming Sunday is Independence Day, a celebration of America’s birth, our Founders, our triumphs as a nation, and most importantly: all men and women who have put their country first through service, sacrifice, and honor. I am grateful that we will all take a much needed day to unite as a community in Northwest Florida and celebrate America as the greatest country that has ever existed in all of human history. While China forced its people to celebrate the 100th year of the communist regime this week, us Americans celebrate our 245th year of rejecting tyranny and choosing freedom for all. From my office to all of Florida’s First District, Happy upcoming-Fourth of July! Here’s a summary of our week in Washington:

REP. GAETZ DEMANDS IG INVESTIGATION INTO NSA’S SPYING OF TUCKER CARLSON

On Wednesday, I called for an Inspector General investigation into the NSA’s surreptitious spying of Fox News host Tucker Carlson. The issue of government surveillance has been brought back to the forefront with these disturbing revelations, and I urge my Democrat colleagues to join me in my call to action.

Following this Judiciary Committee hearing, I signed a letter led by Rep. Jim Jordan and addressed to Inspector General Robert Storch, which asks that the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) “immediately review whether the NSA collected, possessed, or obtained Mr. Carlson’s electronic communications and report to the Committee about this matter.” Now that my colleagues and I have alerted the OIG about this and called upon them to act, we are hopeful for an adequate response.

REP. GAETZ COSPONSORS RESOLUTION TO REBUKE DEMOCRAT UNION BILL

In March of this year, the Democrats passed the “Protecting the Right to Organize Act of 2021,” which is nothing short of Big Union. In this measure, unions in Florida (and all other Right to Work States), would require employees to pay them money as a precondition to employment, regardless of whether or not they want to participate in any union to begin with. This week, I cosponsored Rep. Bishop’s House Resolution, which rejects this Democrat bill as a harm to the U.S. economy and a disservice to American workers. This resolution is important because hard-working Americans are the ones who built our country, not the Big Unions that want to take our money.

REP. GAETZ COSIGNS LETTER TO VA SECRETARY OPPOSING SEX REASSIGNMENT SURGERIES

Denis McDonough, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, recently approved sexual reassignment surgeries at and through the VA. Regardless of what people think about these reassignment surgeries, it is a no-brainer that this is not a priority for Veterans Affairs. Sexual reassignment is not a vital health procedure in the context of supporting our nation’s veterans. Before any government funds these types of operations, and permits such individuals to skip the line, we need to take care of those who have waited for months and years for more essential procedures and outcomes. For these reasons, I signed a letter to VA Secretary Denis McDonough opposing this decision.
