Dear John,
When I launched my campaign for Congress two years ago, I wanted to bring more economic opportunity to our community and push back on the divisive partisanship that has torn our country apart -- and I'm immensely proud of the campaign we ran.
Over the past few months, I have thought long and hard about the best way to continue this work -- against the backdrop of an ongoing redistricting process and dramatic changes to our economy that were unleashed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The question I've wrestled with is how I can best contribute to the just and equitable recovery our nation and our community need right now. And, I have come to the difficult conclusion that it is NOT as a candidate for Congress in 2022.
I am, however, committed to building on the momentum for change we created together these past two years. This will include supporting local groups working to elect strong candidates who share our values up and down the ballot and advising businesses and public officials on strategies to create more jobs in communities like ours.
I want to deeply thank everyone who was a part of our historic campaign in 2020. Your hard work and unending belief helped us earn more votes than any other Democratic challenger in California in 2020 and the most ever by a challenger in our district. This was and is a historic achievement that has laid a strong foundation for what I know will be a strong group of potential 2022 candidates in CA-04.
Most importantly, I'm proud of how we came together amidst a devastating once-in-a-generation pandemic to provide community, hope, and support to so many in need at one of our darkest points in recent history. I remain humbled, grateful, and in awe of all of you who gave so generously of your time and resources on this incredible journey.
In the coming days, I will be sharing more details on my own path ahead. For now, I want to leave you with my immense gratitude -- to all of you who joined this historic campaign. Running to represent you has been the honor of my life.
Thank you,
Brynne Kennedy
