What would you say if I told you Israel is allowing a close ally of Iran, her archenemy, to fund the Hamas terrorist regime in Gaza?

In 2018, the tension on the Israel-Gaza border flared up. Hamas began flying fire kites and incendiary balloons towards Israel. This damaged Israeli farming lands and forced Israeli kindergarteners to evacuate for fear of a major fire, forcing Israel to respond.

The Qatari Gaza Reconstruction Committee began its work in 2012 with a $407 million grant and is considered one of the largest donor organizations in the Gaza Strip. As part of a long-term ‘arrangement’ between Israel and Hamas, Qatar offered to transfer monthly stipends of $15 million to Hamas officials in the civil sector. Additionally, $10 million was granted for diesel for the Gaza power plant.

Covering the history of how drones are reshaping war from the 1980s to the global war on terror, Seth Frantzman will provide a glimpse of how drone warfare will define future competition between the US, China, Israel, Iran, Turkey and other countries. Drones are everywhere today: Elon Musk has predicted the F-35 will become obsolete against a “drone fighter plane” and Iranian drone technology is being used increasingly by militias in Iraq, Hamas in Gaza and the Houthis in Yemen.

Israel has developed new air defenses to shoot down drones, such as Iron Dome interceptors and even lasers. Meanwhile, Iran continues to roll out new kamikaze drones and export them around the region. Having interviewed the top defense companies, generals and operators, Frantzman will discuss the artificial intelligence defining modern surveillance to the air defense technology of systems like Iron Dome that can shoot down drone threats.
About the speaker: Seth J. Frantzman (Ph.D.) is the executive director of the Middle East Center for Reporting and Analysis and the Middle East affairs correspondent at The Jerusalem Post. He is the author of "After ISIS: America, Israel and the Struggle for the Middle East" (Gefen, 2019). He received his Ph.D. from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has lived in Israel since 2004, where he has covered the Disengagement from Gaza, three Gaza wars, the war against ISIS, Iran tensions, and current regional threats and developments. His work has appeared in Foreign Policy, Bloomberg, The Hill, Atlantic Council, Defense News, The Spectator, The National Interest, many of which he is a regular contributor to. He has also appeared on CNN, BBC and media from Greece to Iraq. He is the founder of the Israel Gulf Report which focuses on developments in the wake of the Abraham Accords and peace between Israel and the Gulf states.

America’s largest labor union, the National Education Association, is voting NOW (June 30-July 3) on two items attacking Israel, New Business Item 29 ([link removed](EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_6_16_2021_23_54_COPY_01)&mc_cid=d7978fe065&mc_eid=UNIQID) and New Business Item 51 ([link removed](EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_6_16_2021_23_54_COPY_01)&mc_cid=d7978fe065&mc_eid=UNIQID) . The education union has two million members and is holding its annual meeting virtually this week.

New Business Item 29 makes the fundamentally false claim “the Arab population of Palestine has again risen up in a heroic struggle against military repression” and libelously accuses Israel of “ethnic cleansing.”

New Business Item 51 aims to “educate members and the general public about the history, culture, and struggles of Palestinians, including the detention and abuse of children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” virtually promising the spread of fiercely anti-Israel and antisemitic propaganda if passed.

The meeting is taking place right now, so time is running out!

How You Can Help:

Send an email to your local and state NEA representatives here ([link removed](EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_6_16_2021_23_54_COPY_01)&mc_cid=d7978fe065&mc_eid=UNIQID) urging them to vote against these motions. The body of the email is already written; all you have to do is fill in some contact information! However, you have a greater impact when you share your thoughts and experiences in your own words.

Parents of children in kindergarten through 12th grade should contact their children’s schools. Remind principals and teachers that their educational institutions should not be used to disseminate propaganda. The Israeli-Arab conflict is a complicated issue and the way it promises to be presented distorts the reality that Israel has been forced to contend with since its inception as a modern Jewish, democratic state. Suffice it to say no proposed curricula will speak about Israel’s many exceedingly generous offers of “land for peace” and a viable Palestinian state within Israel’s narrow borders that the Palestinians have repeatedly rejected.

• With all the challenges in education arising out of the Covid epidemic, the teachers’ union should not be entangling itself in divisive politics and should not devote financial resources to such a misguided endeavor.

• Taking sides on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will feed into negative publicity for the union. If the NEA wants to educate its members on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it must do so in a balanced and informed way.

• Describing a political movement that has resorted to terrorism that targets civilians as “heroic” is not balanced or informed. Neither is the inappropriate use of the inflammatory term “ethnic cleansing.”
