John,
Yesterday, the Trump Organization and CFO Allen Weisselberg were indicted on 15 counts, based on a fraud scheme stretching back 15 years.
This is a really big deal.
For one thing, criminal charges against corporations are exceedingly rare. And for another, this is a sign that Donald Trump may finally face accountability for his many abuses. While he was not indicted personally, his business and a top executive’s indictment may only be the start. For more, read CREW’s statement.
While Trump was president, he was shielded from the possibility of criminal charges—and investigations were short-circuited, such as when Attorney General Bill Barr’s DOJ publicly covered for Trump to blunt the Mueller report’s findings about his likely obstruction of justice. Now, with multiple investigations moving forward, the time for accountability may finally be coming. Yesterday’s indictments may herald a new era of answers and justice.
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
