Hi Friend,
This Independence Day,
celebrating our freedom has renewed meaning. Not only are we observing the
245th anniversary of our nation, but we are also
experiencing increased freedom to move about the country (and the
world) as numbers of fully vaccinated people go up and cases of COVID-19
go
down.
The Fourth of July is always a good time to
reflect on American values—both our own and those core values set
forth in the Declaration of Independence--- especially equality,
diversity and freedom. We must continue to educate ourselves, evolve
our ways of thinking and acting, and strive to improve our country for
our nation's youth who look up to us and who will one day be our
leaders. It is with these values and freedoms in mind that must move
forward in our everyday lives as good citizens, responsible parents,
and reliable friends.
At Responsibility.org, we strive to eliminate
underage drinking, to eliminate
drunk driving and work with others to end all
impaired driving, and to promote
the responsible consumption of alcohol among those of
age who choose to drink. We are proud to have you as part of our
community—one who shares, upholds, and encourages these values as part
of living a balanced lifestyle.
As you prepare to celebrate the 4th of July, do so with
respect and care, keeping in mind that if you choose to drink alcohol,
do so using these tips:
Make sure you eat! And
if you are hosting, be sure to have food available for guests or ask
them to bring their own.
Drink plenty of water and have
plenty of non-alcoholic beverages on hand for yourself and friends.
Consider offering a mocktail or a fun non-alcoholic drink for
those who are choosing not to drink or who might be taking a night off
so they can feel included, too.
If you leave home, plan for a
safe ride back. Never ever drive drunk or impaired by other
substances.
Don’t overdo it!
Remember your limits and look out for members of your group.
Be aware that not all beverages are created equally, so it's important
to make sure the drink you're enjoying is a standard drink. A standard
drink, whether beer, spirits, wine or other, contains the same amount
of alcohol -- so if you choose to drink, follow the standard drink
recommendation to stay within your limits. Don't know your limits?
Plan ahead with our Virtual
Bar.
If you’re able to, support
local restaurants and choose to buy cocktails-to-go! Remember
to enjoy them at home and never drive impaired.
Have a conversation with your
kids about being a responsible citizen and model this
behavior. This includes not only drinking responsibly, but
also following the rules in place, discussing the meaning of
Independence Day, and taking steps to change the world for the
better.
From all of us at Responsibility.org,
Happy 4th of July!
