For months, I — along with my colleagues and our movement — have been calling on President Biden to honor his campaign promise to end the federal death penalty — and late last night, the Department of Justice announced that it will suspend all federal executions.
The death penalty — which disproportionately kills Black, Latinx, and poor people — does absolutely nothing to make our communities safer. It is a cruel and devastating tool of oppression, and it has no place in our society.
State-sanctioned murder is not justice, and it never will be. The abolition of the federal death penalty has been a longstanding priority for me, and this work remains urgent.
We must keep up the pressure on President Biden to commute all death sentences, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress, organizers, and advocates to ensure that no one else is condemned to die at the hands of our criminal injustice system.
I need you with me in this fight for justice. Will you support our work to end the practice of state-sanctioned murder once and for all by making a $3 contribution to our movement right now?
