** People enjoy the freedom of their own car, big shocker...
------------------------------------------------------------
Bloomberg ([link removed]) (7/2/21) reports: "Cars are having a moment almost as improbable as the stunts in the “Fast and the Furious” movies that celebrate them. Just a few years ago, obituaries were being written for the motor car — Millennials and Gen-Zers, so the argument went, were going to swerve away from car ownership as more of them moved to cities with myriad public transport options and ride hailing services like Uber. Besides, concern about the adverse impact on the environment would deter young people from making purchases. Then the pandemic hit. Now, as the world recovers, used car prices are going through the roof. Waiting times for driving tests have blown out. And online requests for driving directions are soaring, while public transit route inquiries have plunged. An EY survey of 3,300 consumers in nine countries found that 32% of non-car owners said they intended
to get a car in the next six months. About half of those prospective buyers were millennials...Georgios Basdanis, a 32-year-old doctor in London...said he'd have loved an electric car, but says that option was too expensive — not only the purchase price but also the insurance costs."

** "This [infrastructure bill] is the Green New Deal in disguise, and one tip-off to this is that practically every other sentence in the summary refers to climate change."

(6/30/21) reports: "Five Asian countries are responsible for 80 percent of new coal power stations planned worldwide, with the projects threatening goals to fight the climate crisis, a report warned Wednesday. China, India, Indonesia, Japan and Vietnam are planning to build more than 600 coal plants, think-tank Carbon Tracker said. The stations will be able to generate a total of 300 gigawatts of energy—equivalent to around the entire electricity generating capacity of Japan...The stations will be able to generate a total of 300 gigawatts of energy—equivalent to around the entire electricity generating capacity of Japan. Hillenbrand Von Der Neyen called on governments to use post-coronavirus stimulus spending to 'lay the foundations for a sustainable energy system'. 'Coal no longer makes sense, financially or environmentally,' she said."

Abundant energy under our feet and this is what American families are facing this summer.

** EIA ([link removed])
(6/30/21) reports: "Parts of the United States are at elevated or high risk for potential electricity emergencies this summer, according to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation's (NERC) 2021 Summer Reliability Assessment. Summer peak electricity demand in the United States is strongly influenced by temperature. NERC’s report notes that above-normal temperatures are expected for much of North America this summer and several regions are at risk of electricity shortfalls during above-normal peak temperatures. NERC is a nonprofit international regulatory organization that oversees regional electric reliability entities in the Lower 48 states, Canada, and parts of Mexico. At the beginning of each summer, NERC publishes a reliability assessment that tabulates anticipated electricity demand and supply changes and highlights any regional challenges or expected conditions that may affect the bulk power system. Above-normal summer heat increases electricity demand from
temperature-dependent loads, such as air conditioning, and can reduce electricity supplies if power plant outages or reduced output stem from heat-related issues. Wide-area heat waves can challenge grid operators and may limit electricity transfers because the electricity is needed to meet local electricity demand."
