------------------------------------------------------------
Dear John,
The first round against Ottawa’s censorship bill (Bill C-10) is a victory, but now’s the time to get ready for the next round.
Bill C-10 would pave the way for unelected bureaucrats to scrutinize and censor your online content, including social media posts.
Thanks to supporters like you, it looks like we’ve won round one of this fight.
The Senate adjourned for the summer today without passing Bill C-10. If Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calls an election (and it looks like he will), it’ll knock the bill off the agenda. That’s a big win for supporters like you who pushed MPs and senators to stand up for free speech.
Many senators, including those appointed by Trudeau, strongly objected to Bill C-10.
“I don’t think this bill needs amendments; I think, however, it needs a stake through the heart,” said Senator David Adam Richards, a Trudeau appointee. “I will always and forever stand against any bill that subjects freedom of expression to the doldrums of government oversight, and I implore others to do the same.”
While you may have won round one, this fight is far from over.
The Trudeau government could try to call the Senate back for a special summer session, pass Bill C-10 when Parliament returns in the fall or re-introduce a similar bill after an election.
You can’t let up in our fight to defeat this kind of government overreach.
Could you please take a moment to sign our petition to stop government censorship if you haven’t already done so? Just click on this link: [link removed] ([link removed] )
The Trudeau government is trying to regulate free speech in a way that no other democratic country in the world does, according to Michael Geist, a law professor at the University of Ottawa.
We can’t let that happen.
Please share the petition ([link removed]) with your friends and neighbours. Your stand is stronger when others stand with you. And when we all stand together, you know we can make a difference.
Thanks for standing up for taxpayers – it makes a difference!
Sincerely,
Jay, Franco, Shannon, and the rest of the CTF team.
