[link removed] [[link removed]]Dear John,
LD 1541 — the first-in-the-nation bill to make sure big corporations like Amazon and Walmart pay to recycle the packaging they produce was enacted by the Maine Legislature just hours ago!
[link removed] [[link removed]]
This legislation implements a program called Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Packaging, which makes big corporations responsible for the costs of dealing with the packaging they produce. This currently costs Maine taxpayers millions of dollars each year and thankfully, the Maine Legislature agrees that this is unfair.
At our Conservation Lobby Day in Augusta last month, we spoke with our lawmakers about why LD 1541 is essential. We’d like to give a special shoutout to Rep. Nicole Grohoski of Ellsworth for bringing this legislation forward and for her leadership on this issue ( and so many others ).
[link removed] [[link removed]]Thank you to the hundreds of folks that sent messages and called their legislators to express why LD 1541 is so important for Mainers.
Next, this bill heads to Gov. Mills’ desk for review , so please join us in asking Gov. Mills to sign the bill into law [[link removed]] .
More soon,
Abbie
