Ripon Society Hosts Discussion with Top Aide to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell

WASHINGTON, DC — As lawmakers negotiate a possible infrastructure agreement and debate the budget and deficit for the coming year, The Ripon Society held a luncheon discussion on Wednesday with a top aide to the Republican Leader of the United States Senate—Scott Raab.

Raab serves as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). He joined McConnell’s staff in 1999 as Legislative Assistant and rose through the ranks of the Kentucky Republican’s office, eventually being promoted to his current post in March of 2019.

“For more than two decades, Scott has proven himself as a trusted advisor and tireless advocate for the people of Kentucky,” stated Jim Conzelman, the President & CEO of The Ripon Society. “As a longtime veteran of Capitol Hill, Scott knows better than most that legislating is difficult in Washington, but the 117th Congress has presented a unique set of obstacles when it comes to finding commonsense solutions for America’s most pressing issues.

“We appreciate Scott for joining us this afternoon to discuss the current state of affairs in Congress’s Upper Chamber. As President Lincoln once said, ‘Whatever you are, be a good one.’ And I can assure you that Scott Raab is one of the good ones on Capitol Hill.”

“Legislating is difficult in Washington, but the 117th Congress has presented a unique set of obstacles when it comes to finding commonsense solutions for America’s most pressing issues.”

According to Conzelman, a crowd of over 60 people turned out for the discussion. Conzelman further noted that the discussion was the 35th event – and fourth in-person event -- hosted by The Ripon Society so far in 2021. The next event will be a discussion on July 13th with veteran Republican pollster and President & CEO of the Tarrance Group, Ed Goeas, who will talk about the results from the latest Georgetown University Battleground Poll on Politics and Civility and what it means for voters and candidates around the country.

The Ripon Society is a public policy organization that was founded in 1962 and takes its name from the town where the Republican Party was born in 1854 – Ripon, Wisconsin.  One of the main goals of The Ripon Society is to promote the ideas and principles that have made America great and contributed to the GOP’s success.  These ideas include keeping our nation secure, keeping taxes low and having a federal government that is smaller, smarter and more accountable to the people.
