Dear John
Your
donations and support make a huge impact on our work for wildlife. With you by
our side, Born Free raises our voice for those with none as we rescue, protect
and fight for wild animals in need. Thank you from the bottom of our, and
their, hearts. |
FANTASTIC NEWS THANKS TO YOU |
After thousands of you wrote to the UK government, new legislation to phase out elephants in zoos could be on the cards. After years of our campaigning, South Africa may ban trophy-hunting of captive-bred lions. And in Kenya, we’ve launched a major new project to protect rare giraffes and elephants! |

GOODBYE CIRCUS, HELLO AFRICA! |
A bright future beckons for Angela, Bellone,
Louga and Saïda, the four lions rescued from a French circus. The big top is no
place for a lion, forced to perform unnatural tricks in front of noisy crowds,
music blaring and lights flashing. No wonder they seem so content at their
tranquil temporary home at Tonga Terre d’Accueil in France.
Thanks
to your donations and with COVID-19 restrictions starting to lift we can make
plans to move the lions to our sanctuary in South Africa. Meanwhile the four enjoy the warmer weather and like to play, chase and wrestle before dozing in the sun. READ MORE |

YOUR ACTION MAKES THINGS HAPPEN |
There
has been a month of tragic deaths at UK zoos and none more so than one elephant
killed by another at a zoo near Bristol. Full details will probably never
emerge. But YOUR voice has been heard with leaked reports that keeping
elephants in zoos – these complex, social and majestic animals that
suffer SO much in captivity – is coming to an end. Let the trumpets sound!

MEET THE BORN FREE FAMILY - CELIA NICHOLLS, EDITOR |
“Hello!
25 years ago this month I ‘came home’ to Born Free and life’s been sweeter ever
since. As our charity’s editor, I help pull together our magazines and share
stories about our work with people like you. It’s a privilege to see our
outreach and impact grow. But I never forget that each animal matters. |
|
|
As a young zoology student at London Zoo, I quickly realised the animals behaved strangely – pacing and neurotically grooming. It broke my heart to realise how we’d betrayed these creatures for our pleasure. At Born Free, a passion for the wild isn’t enough – love engenders responsibility. So, I hold the broken animals in my heart, extolling the wild. Thank you for joining us on our journey. Together we can change the world.” |
VIRGINIA MCKENNA'S 90TH CELEBRATIONS
Thank
you to all who attended Virginia’s online party and supported the Born Free
cause so generously. If you missed it, you can still enjoy the party HERE. We were joined by amazing celebrities and friends of
Virginia and the night was a true celebration of our iconic
matriarch. “You are a precious part of our family,” said Virginia. “You
are why I am always optimistic, always hopeful.” |
|
|
Thank
you for sharing our vision for a kinder, more compassionate future! Together we
are saving wildlife, one animal at a time.
