Dear Friend,

Since the January 6 insurrection, Toyota has donated 37 times to
Republicans who voted to overturn the election results.^1

When asked to defend pouring money into the pockets of seditionists,
Toyota responded that the company wasn’t going to judge based on “one
vote," but rather just lawmakers’ “position on issues important to the
auto industry and the company.”^2

Toyota’s statement is exactly why we need to clean up campaign finance and
get Big Corporate money out of our elections—they only care about their
bottom line, not the wellbeing of the public or the future of our
democracy.

The January 6 riot at the Capitol Building was stoked not only by Donald
Trump, but also by several members of Congress who were spreading the lie
of election fraud.

That lie continues to put our democracy in danger, and it is being used to
help pass dozens of voter suppression laws that are threatening free and
fair elections.^3

But Toyota doesn’t care about that. Neither do Koch Industries, Cigna,
AT&T, or the other corporations that donated to these politicians.^4 All
they care about are business-friendly tax laws, undermining worker rights
and safety, and whatever raises their profits.

Demand Progress has been working to get corporate money out of politics
from the very beginning.

We’re working to overturn the Citizens United decision, stop unlimited
corporate spending, and pass public financing of elections to reduce the
power of Big Money. Politicians should rely on ordinary voters to make
their campaigns possible, not on billionaires or big corporations.

And right now, we’re working to pass H.R. 1, which would help keep
corporate money out of politics.

We need to raise our voices above those of giant corporations. Will you
donate?

politics.
