On National Postal Worker Day, I’d like to express my gratitude to our mail carriers and post office staff for serving our communities and keeping us connected when we needed it the most.
The pandemic underscored the key role of postal workers during times of crisis, showing us once again just how much Americans rely on the U.S. Postal Service for the timely delivery of life-saving medicine, mail-in ballots, and time-sensitive paperwork.They carried out this crucial work despite interference from Trump and the henchman he put in charge, Louis DeJoy.
Protecting and strengthening the Postal Service is more urgent than ever. That is why in Congress, I have been fighting for a Postal Banking program that would secure additional funding for USPS, and expand financial services in rural and urban areas where Americans are being left behind by banks and lenders.
Under this Postal Banking program, USPS would receive the funds required to meet the needs of the people -- providing them with essential services such as access to a surcharge-free ATM, check cashing, bill payment, and more.
As families struggle to recover from the economic crisis caused by the pandemic, it is critical that we strengthen the Postal Service and improve access to affordable financial services everywhere.
