Working tirelessly behind the scenes while publicly leading the international call for sanctions against Myanmar, our Forests team welcomed fresh action from the EU and UK. The Council of the EU has approved a wave of sanctions against Myanmar’s natural resources sector, especially timber exports, which generate hard currency for the illegitimate military regime. EIA has been exposing Myanmar’s illegal timber exports and the international timber traders profiting from this crime for the past decade.
EIA has called for Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve to be stripped of its World Heritage Site status due to the damage caused by construction of a controversial dam, warning custodians of such sites that reckless environmental vandalism is unacceptable.
In our latest What on Earth? EIA podcast, we chat with our Senior Intelligence Analyst, Mel Butler, about our innovative, first-of-its-kind new Global Environmental Crime Tracker, who will be able to use it and our plans to expand it in the near future.
Support the launch of a beautiful coffee table book with 48 chapters, each by leading animal charity founders, well known artists, photographers and actors. All profits go to the charities whose CEOs or founders contributed, EIA is one of them!
