This is a set-back, but there’s a lot of work that Dem AGs are doing to protect the right to vote. Learn more:
Friend, we know we’ve been sending a lot of emails, but this is major news that we need our supporters to know:
The Supreme Court just sided with Arizona’s Republican AG to weaken the Voting Rights Act even more, as GOP state legislatures across the country work to restrict access to the ballot box. This opinion allowed conservative Supreme Court Justices to weigh in on Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which prohibits racial discrimination in elections.
This opinion is a set-back, but our Dem AGs won’t stop fighting to protect access to the ballot box. They’re already fighting to protect voting rights in and out of the courtroom – and Dem AGs won’t stop now.
Dem AG Karl Racine led a coalition of 18 Dem AGs to fight alongside activists to protect the rights of voters, especially voters of color, in this case. But even with this disappointing Supreme Court decision, there’s still a lot of work that Dem AGs are doing to expand access to the ballot box.
Here’s a short list of how Dem AGs have protected the right to vote in the past few months:
Sued to expand the number of polling locations in local elections – and won
Demanded Trump’s postmaster general Louis DeJoy stop his continued attempts to delay the mail, including mail-in-ballots
Worked with state legislatures to expand the right to vote in states across the country
Fought in court to prevent voters from being removed from voting rolls – and won
Called out shady Republican “election auditors” planning to taint the integrity of the 2020 election in their states
Democratic AGs are fighting to protect our right to vote and the integrity of our elections, but we need to elect more of them. And with more than 30 AG races in the next two years, that’s where you come in.
The biggest impact you can make to elect Dem AGs is with an early investment in our electoral programs. We’ve won over two-thirds of our targeted races since 2016, because supporters like you have given early (and often!) to help us get a strong lead in each of these down-ballot races.
We can’t give up on this pivotal fight now. Help us fight back!
