This morning, the Supreme Court issued its opinion in Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee. Their decision is, in short, a terrible one—one which upholds voter suppression laws in Arizona and undermines our right to vote by taking Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act out at the knees.
It’s devastating, but not surprising. It’s more evidence that the Supreme Court’s decisions are extremely partisan. We’re seeing the resulting damage of a 6-3 ultra-conservative court—one that has been intentionally packed with right-wing extremists over the past decade.
But we don’t have to sit by and watch the Supreme Court unravel our democracy and attack our voting rights. House Democrats have a plan to add four Supreme Court Justices, which would restore balance and integrity to the Court. Read about the Judiciary Act and how you can help make it law:

Instead of upholding the values of the American people, the 6-3 conservative court has repeatedly favored corporations and special interests—rulings that will impact generations to come. Today's decision highlighted the need to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, but the Brnovich decision also shows that the Supreme Court will continue to further threaten every American’s freedom to vote if we don’t do something to stop them.
Adding justices to the bench might feel like a stretch, but it’s what we need to do in order to bring balance and diversity to the highest court in the land. In fact, Congress has expanded the Supreme Court multiple times throughout American history so that the number of justices kept apace with the expanding American electorate—and the number of Federal Appeals Courts, which now stands at thirteen. We need our democracy to modernize and adapt over time; that’s exactly how our government should work.
There’s nothing stopping Congress from adding justices—except for the political will to do it, of course. That’s where you come in. We need you to read up about court expansion and be ready to take action.

This isn’t a fight we’ll win tomorrow, but it’s one we must start today.
We’re grateful for everything you do.
