I'm fired up, John:
Charles Booker is officially running for U.S. Senate against Rand Paul in Kentucky — and I couldn't be more excited and proud to be one of the first to give him my endorsement.
Charles is a remarkable and proven leader. He deeply understands the struggle that so many Americans face because he's been in it himself growing up in one of Louisville's poorest ZIP codes.
He's ready to fight for our progressive agenda in Washington, and I truly can't think of a more perfect person to represent Kentucky in the U.S. Senate.
Charles and I first met last year during the 2020 primaries when we were first-time candidates for office. And while Charles didn't win his primary, he shocked the nation and changed people's perception of the progressive movement in Kentucky forever.
Despite being heavily outspent 10-to-1 by the establishment-backed candidate, he nearly pulled off an upset in the Democratic primary. And this time, I'm confident that as long as our movement mobilizes behind him, we can win.
You also likely know how I feel about the Senate, John. The Senate continues to be behind the times. The Senate has failed on numerous occasions to act boldly to save our democracy.
But I know that if Charles wins, and if we send him to Washington, he will legislate and lead boldly in the Senate — to abolish the filibuster, win our progressive agenda, and save our democracy. And with the Senate divided 50/50, it's urgent that we start preparing early to expand our majority and elect the kind of leadership that's sorely lacking in the Senate.
